Novel Info

My wife’s grandfather was critically ill, and I knelt, begging her to save him. But she held onto the by man and sneered at me, “Lin Huizhen, to trick me into coming home, you’d even curse my grandpa?” I searched everywhere for medical help. Yet, she used her connections to seal off all pharmacies: “Let’s see who dares sell medicine to a liar like you!” When Grandpa took his last breath, she was celebrating her birthday on a yacht with the by man. At the funeral, I held his portrait, my tears almost completely dried up. She kicked open the mourning hall doors, a cold smile on her face, and scoffed, “Even a funeral has been arranged? Lin Huizhen, you’re quite the actor!” She didn’t know that the ashes in the urn truly belonged to her most beloved grandfather.

On their wedding anniversary, Lin Huizhen sat alone in the completely dark living room.

The dim glow of his phone screen was the only light in the dead silence.

On the screen was a WeChat Moments update from his wife, Lu Chengpei, posted half an hour ago.

In the photo, she wore an expensive suit, smiling wildly and casually. Her arm was intimately wrapped around another man’s neck.

The man, named Chi Yiye, tilted his head slightly, revealing half of an overly delicate face. His eyes seemed to hook the camera, and a faint, challenging smile played on his lips.

The background was a luxurious yacht, brightly lit, with a towering champagne pyramid reflecting a hazy glow.

The caption was just one line, yet it was like an ice-cold needle, pricking Lin Huizhen’s heart incessantly:

【True love needs no deliberate anniversary. As long as souls align, every day is a carnival.】

His finger unconsciously slid down.

The comment section below had exploded.

【Sister Pei is awesome! True love is invincible!】
【Young Master Chi and Sister Pei are simply a match made in heaven! Some people are just squatting on the toilet without doing anything, have some shame!】
【Exactly, a bumpkin who got married through an elder’s arranged marriage, how could he possibly deserve to celebrate an anniversary? So ridiculous!】
【Young Master Chi is so handsome! Some desperate b****y men, get lost, okay?】

“Heh…” A short, bitter laugh escaped Lin Huizhen’s throat.

He fiercely pressed the screen dark, slamming his phone face down onto the cold tabletop. His fingertips were white from the force.

Outside the window was endless darkness.

This expensive villa felt like a cage trapping him.

It had been this way for a long time.

From the day Lu Chengpei’s stern old grandfather, Lu Chenshi, personally designated him as Lu Chengpei’s husband.

Lu Chengpei’s gaze towards him had always been like looking at a piece of dirty chewing gum stuck to the bottom of her shoe.

Her disgust was never hidden.

On their wedding day, Lu Chengpei even refused to complete the final kiss ritual, simply saying in a voice devoid of warmth, “Lin Huizhen, don’t even think of getting what you don’t deserve.”

Since then, their marriage had been in name only, a relationship between strangers.

Lu Chengpei rarely returned home. On the few occasions she did, it was usually to pick something up or appease Lu Chenshi, completely ignoring him.

Her warmth, her smiles, her lavish spending… all the human warmth she possessed, she gave only to that man named Chi Yiye.

Chi Yiye.

That ultimate b****y man who always maintained a persona of “independent single noble公子,” “anti-marriage advocate,” and “only pursuing spiritual freedom” on social media.

While enjoying Lu Chengpei’s meticulous financial support and ambiguous warmth—receiving yachts, limited edition sports cars, and private bookings of top restaurants—he would, in various settings, clarify with the most innocent tone: “Peipei and I are just the best of friends, please don’t misunderstand, it’ll make her ‘official’ partner at home uncomfortable.”

His seemingly innocent remarks only fueled more contempt and attacks from Lu Chengpei’s supporters towards Lin Huizhen.

Lin Huizhen once believed that all hearts were made of flesh.

He cautiously played the role of the legitimate Lu family husband, showing filial piety to Lu Chenshi, managing this emotionless home. Yet, he always held a strange glimmer of hope, as if by doing his best, Lu Chengpei might turn to look at him.

It was only now, looking at that glaring WeChat Moments post and the malicious comments below, that he finally understood completely.

Some people’s hearts were made of stone, forever impossible to warm.

A few days later, at the Lu family’s old residence.

Lu Chenshi sat upright in the grand armchair, staring intently at Lin Huizhen, who stood below.

“Huizhen,” the old man’s voice carried the authority of someone long accustomed to high positions, yet also a hint of imperceptible weariness, “what you just said, is it all true? Peipei… is she really so entangled with that b****y person?”

Lin Huizhen lowered his head, his fingers tightly digging into his palm, barely suppressing a choke in his throat.

He hadn’t wanted to complain, but Chi Yiye had become increasingly arrogant recently.

He even usurped Lin Huizhen’s ribbon-cutting position at the groundbreaking ceremony of a new Lu Group real estate project, claiming to be “Mr. Lu’s close friend,” and was caught by several media outlets.

He couldn’t stand by and watch Chi Yiye recklessly tarnish the Lu family’s reputation any longer.

“Grandpa,” his voice was hoarse, “Chi Yiye… what he posts on social media, everyone can see. Peipei… she seems to be quite influenced by him.”

He took out his phone and pulled up Chi Yiye’s latest update – a selfie by the window of a private jet, with Lu Chengpei’s blurry but highly recognizable profile in the background.

Caption: 【Thanks to my exclusive ‘captain’ for taking me to see the sea of clouds and stars.】

Lu Chenshi glanced at the screen, then suddenly burst into a violent fit of coughing, clutching his mouth, his knuckles white.

The housekeeper rushed forward, patting his back to help him breathe.

“Good… good for you, Chi Yiye!” The old man gasped, his eyes blazing with fury, “Do you think I’m dead?! How dare you disgrace the Lu family’s prestige, disgrace the grandson-in-law I personally chose!”

“Grandpa, please don’t get angry!” Lin Huizhen was terrified and quickly stepped forward.

Lu Chenshi waved his hand, his eyes terrifyingly gloomy, and sternly ordered the housekeeper, “Go! Find out everything about that Chi Yiye! And, have someone ‘take care of him’! Make him understand that not every high branch is for him to climb!”

“Grandpa!” Lin Huizhen’s heart skipped a beat, and a strong sense of foreboding seized him, “No! That will anger Peipei! And… Chi Yiye… he’s very good at exploiting loopholes, we might not find any leverage…”

“What are you afraid of!” Lu Chenshi heavily struck his cane on the ground, producing a dull thud. “I’m not dead yet! Peipei wouldn’t go against my wishes for some b****y person from outside!”

Lin Huizhen’s mind was in turmoil.

He wanted to stop him, but seeing Lu Chenshi trembling with anger, all words were stuck in his throat.

“Bang—!”

The villa’s heavy front door was violently kicked open with immense force, slamming against the wall with a loud crash.

Lin Huizhen was in the kitchen preparing dinner, and at the sound, he startled, his spoon nearly falling into the pot.

As he stepped out of the kitchen, a figure radiating violent rage swept towards him like a whirlwind.

Lu Chengpei’s arrogant and unbridled face was now contorted with extreme fury. Without a word, she raised her hand—

“Slap!”

A brutal slap landed heavily on Lin Huizhen’s face.

The force was so great that his vision instantly blackened, his ears rang, and his entire body staggered, hitting the cabinet. His cheek rapidly swelled up.

“Lin Huizhen! You poisonous husband!” Lu Chengpei fiercely grabbed Lin Huizhen’s collar, slamming him against the wall. “How dare you use such despicable means to harm Chi Yiye! If his people hadn’t arrived in time, he almost… he almost got ruined! Lost his ability to have children!”

“You’re also a man, how can you be so vicious!”

Lin Huizhen was stunned, his ears still ringing. Lu Chengpei’s furious shouts seemed to be muffled by water, blurry and indistinct.

He struggled to breathe, trying to explain: “No… it wasn’t me… I didn’t…”

“Still dare to argue!” Lu Chengpei’s nails were almost digging into his flesh, her expression hideous. “Who else but you, this b****y person who constantly plots in the dark?! What has Chi Yiye done to you? You just can’t tolerate him? Huh?”

He looked at the woman who was his nominal wife, his legal partner, resorting to violence against him for another man, and even accusing him of the most vicious crimes.

Lin Huizhen’s chest ached, almost numb.

“I did it!” An old voice suddenly rang out.

Lu Chenshi, his face ashen, slowly descended the stairs with the help of his housekeeper, leaning on his cane.

“Grandpa…” Lu Chengpei’s momentum faltered slightly upon seeing Lu Chenshi, but her anger hadn’t subsided, “You… why would you…”

“Why?” Lu Chenshi walked closer, his cane striking the ground heavily, making Lu Chengpei instinctively release her grip on Lin Huizhen’s hand.

The old man’s sharp gaze swept over Lu Chengpei’s face like a knife, finally resting on Lin Huizhen’s swollen cheek and disheveled clothes. A flash of pain crossed his eyes, followed by deeper fury.

“Look! Look at the good deeds you’ve done!” Lu Chenshi pointed at Lin Huizhen, his voice trembling with agitation. “This is the legitimate husband of my Lu family, brought in with proper ceremonies and ancient traditions! For an insignificant plaything from outside, you actually laid hands on your own husband? Where is your upbringing? Where is the Lu family’s face?!”

“Grandpa!” Lu Chengpei stiffened her neck, her face filled with defiance, “He started it…”

“Shut up!” Lu Chenshi interrupted her, pointing his cane at Lu Chengpei’s nose. “What is Chi Yiye? A b****y man who relies on flaunting himself and manipulating people to climb the social ladder! What has he brought to the Lu family? Honor or disgrace? Huh? Are you so blinded that you can’t distinguish between family and outsiders, or between propriety and shame?!”

“Cough, cough, cough…” Perhaps due to extreme emotion, Lu Chenshi suddenly burst into a violent, heart-wrenching cough, his body swaying. A mouthful of dark red blood foam splattered unexpectedly onto the clean floor, a shocking sight!

“Grandpa!” Lin Huizhen was terrified. Ignoring the pain in his face, he rushed over to support the falling old man.

“Old Master!” The housekeeper also turned pale.

Lu Chengpei looked at the blood on the floor. The anger on her face was finally replaced by horror, and she froze in place, bewildered.

Lu Chenshi desperately clutched Lin Huizhen’s arm, his cloudy eyes still glaring fiercely at Lu Chengpei, squeezing out a few broken words: “You… you unfilial… evil spawn… if you don’t want to see your grandpa die… then get back and live here…”

Under the life-or-death pressure from Lu Chenshi, Lu Chengpei reluctantly moved back to the villa.

However, her heart remained with Chi Yiye.

She slept in the guest bedroom, treating Lin Huizhen like thin air, but her phone rang from morning to night, all calls from Chi Yiye.

The tenderness in her eyes when she answered the phone was something Lin Huizhen had never seen directed at himself.

“Mm… got it, my little darling… missed me? Good boy, I’ll come to you as soon as I’m done with this mess at home… Don’t worry, no one can bully you, I’m here…”

Lin Huizhen silently prepared meals, cleaned the rooms, like a dutiful but invisible servant.

Such days lasted less than three days.

On the evening of the fourth day, Lu Chengpei’s phone rang again.

This time, Chi Yiye’s faint, breathless voice came from the other end of the line. The background sound seemed to be the beeping of medical equipment:

“Peipei… I… I think I’m dying… My chest hurts so much… I can’t breathe… The doctor said I might… might not make it through the night… I’m so scared… I really want to see you one last time…”

Lu Chengpei’s face instantly turned ashen, her hand clutching the phone trembling uncontrollably: “A-Ye! A-Ye, don’t scare me! Wait for me! I’ll be right there!”

She frantically grabbed her car keys, didn’t even glance at Lin Huizhen, and rushed out the door like a whirlwind.

The roar of the engine quickly faded into the night.

The vast villa was once again left with just Lin Huizhen.

Dead silence.

He numbly walked to the window, looking in the direction where Lu Chengpei’s sports car had disappeared, a smile on his lips uglier than a cry.

One last time? Chi Yiye’s tricks were truly endless.

Just then—

“Thud!”

A dull thud came from upstairs!

Lin Huizhen’s heart tightened violently. A strong sense of foreboding instantly gripped him.

He dashed upstairs towards Lu Chenshi’s bedroom!

Pushing open the door, the scene before him instantly froze his blood.

Lu Chenshi was sprawled on the expensive carpet, eyes tightly closed, his face a terrifying grayish-blue, white foam oozing from his mouth, his body still twitching unconsciously.

An extremely strong, foul odor, like rotten eggs, continuously emanated from the old man’s mouth, instantly filling the entire room. The fresh flowers on the table withered in an instant!

“Grandpa!” Lin Huizhen was terrified. Ignoring the pain in his face, he rushed over and picked up the old man.

The stench made him almost vomit, but he desperately held it in, his trembling hand reaching to check for a pulse, which was so faint it was barely perceptible.

He frantically dialed 120 and then followed the ambulance to the hospital.

After receiving the doctor’s diagnosis, he immediately called Lu Chengpei.

The phone rang for a long time before being answered. The background was deafening music and Chi Yiye’s playful laughter.

It seemed they were having another all-night party.

Chi Yiye’s illness was an excuse, but Lu Chenshi… he might truly be dying.

“Lin Huizhen? Are you f***ing done?” Lu Chengpei’s extremely impatient voice came through.

“Peipei! Grandpa, he…” Lin Huizhen’s voice trembled uncontrollably. The immense fear made him incoherent. “He suddenly collapsed, and his mouth… a terrible stench is coming from it! The doctor said it’s acute viral halitosis, very dangerous, he needs to be transferred to ICU immediately! But he needs a large amount of toilet cleaner for special treatment!”

“Go buy toilet cleaner quickly! The best kind, as much as possible!”

There was a moment of silence on the other end, followed by Lu Chengpei’s sharp, ear-piercing curse:

“Lin Huizhen! Are you f***ing crazy?! I just left a few minutes ago? And you pull this stunt on me?! Are you addicted to faking illness?”

“Acute viral halitosis? Needs toilet cleaner? Can’t you use your brain when you lie?! Why don’t you say you need to soak in 84 disinfectant?!”

Lin Huizhen helplessly stammered, “It’s true! Grandpa, he…”

“Shut up! You’re truly the most vicious b****y person I’ve ever seen! To trick me into coming back, you’d even curse my grandpa? And make up such a ridiculous excuse? Get lost! Go as far away as you can!” Lu Chengpei’s voice was filled with rage. After speaking, she hung up fiercely without waiting for Lin Huizhen to respond.

“Beep…”

The cold dial tone was like a death countdown.

Lin Huizhen was at a loss, immense despair almost crushing him.

Right! Chi Yiye!

Chi Yiye’s family owned a large toilet cleaner factory!

He felt like he had grasped the last straw, his trembling fingers fumbling through his contacts for that number he had never dialed.

The phone rang for a long time before finally connecting.

Lin Huizhen didn’t care about anything else, begging with a choked voice, “Mr. Chi, Young Master Chi! Please! Grandpa Lu is critically ill, and the hospital urgently needs a large amount of the highest quality toilet cleaner to save his life! I know your family’s factory…”

He hadn’t even finished speaking when Chi Yiye’s laughter clearly came from the other end: “A-Pei, stop it, ah, that tickles! The phone… the phone’s ringing!”

Then came Lu Chengpei’s hoarse, sexy bubbling voice: “Who cares, he’s just a clown. Focus, A-Ye.”

That ambiguous, playful laughter shattered Lin Huizhen’s last shred of dignity.

He instantly understood that Chi Yiye was doing this on purpose!

Intentionally answering the phone, intentionally letting him hear all of this, just to enjoy his current breakdown!

“Mr. Lin, hurry! The patient’s condition is rapidly worsening. Without the special medicine, he can only last two more hours at most!” The emergency doctor urged anxiously.

Lin Huizhen suddenly looked up, his bloodshot eyes staring out the window.

Unbeknownst to him, strong winds had begun to rage, and torrential rain was pouring down!

Large raindrops furiously splattered against the glass, making loud cracking sounds. The sky was a gloomy, chaotic gray, and the streets were flooded.

There was no choice left.

Like a trapped beast, he plunged into the furious downpour, his eyes bloodshot!

The icy rain instantly drenched him, but he felt no cold. In his heart, there was only a furiously burning flame – toilet cleaner!

The heat in his heart boiled the surrounding water, and the fish all turned belly up, emitting the scent of cooked fish.

He desperately swam into the nearest large chain supermarket, heading straight for the cleaning products section, purposefully grabbing several large bottles of the most high-end “Crystal Diamond” brand toilet cleaner from the shelves. He clutched them tightly and rushed to the cashier.

“Check out!” His voice was hoarse, and he was dripping wet, looking utterly miserable.

The cashier was a young girl. Seeing the toilet cleaner in his arms and his pale face and soaked clothes, she showed a professional smile. Her fingers tapped on the keyboard a few times, and then her expression became strange.

“Sir, I’m sorry, you cannot purchase this brand of toilet cleaner.”

“What?” Lin Huizhen thought he had misheard. The rain was too loud, and his ears were ringing. “Why can’t I buy it? I have money!”

“It’s not about money.” The professional smile on the cashier’s face disappeared, replaced by aloofness.

She pointed to an inconspicuous notice board nearby, where a small line of text was printed: “Notice from upper management: Effective immediately, customers with the surname Lin are temporarily restricted from purchasing ‘Crystal Diamond’ series products. We appreciate your understanding.”

Lin Huizhen felt as if he’d been struck by lightning.

He understood instantly! It was Chi Yiye! He not only humiliated him but also wanted to completely cut off his hope of saving a life!

“I… I don’t have the surname Lin!” The immense anger and despair made him speak without thinking, his voice trembling violently. “I… I took my wife’s surname! My surname is Lu! I am a member of the Lu family! Lu Chengpei is my wife!”

“Tsk…” A young male store clerk nearby, who was organizing shelves, let out an undisguised scoff.

He turned around, sizing up Lin Huizhen, his eyes like he was looking at a pile of foul-smelling garbage.

“Oh? Surname Lu?” The male clerk spoke in a sarcastic tone, his voice not loud, but clearly piercing through the sound of the rain. “You? Do you even deserve to say you’re a member of the Lu family? The real Mr. Lu is our Young Master Chi Yiye! What are you? A shameless, clingy, lowly little pipsqueak who just barely got the name through an elder’s charity!”

He took a step forward, pointing at Lin Huizhen’s nose, his spittle almost spraying onto his face: “Don’t you understand the rules? The one who isn’t loved, that’s the real pipsqueak! Understand? Whoever the Lu family matriarch has in her heart, that’s the real master! You? You’re just a stinky rock occupying the toilet!”

“You…!” Lin Huizhen trembled with rage, blood rushing to his head, his vision blurring.

He wanted to retort, to argue with them.

But Lu Chenshi, hanging by a thread in the hospital, couldn’t wait.

He staggered and stumbled, again rushing into the torrential rain, swimming towards the next supermarket, convenience store, general store…

He frantically scoured every place that might sell toilet cleaner.

But the repeated cold rejections and undisguised contempt in their eyes completely crushed his hope.

“Sorry, Mr. Lin, we’ve received a notice…”

“Excuse me, those with the surname Lin cannot purchase this.”

“Bah! Bad luck! Get out!”

Hope extinguished little by little, despair, like a tide, gradually swallowed him.

He was soaking wet, the red finger marks on his face even more glaring under the washing rain.

Finally, Lin Huizhen returned to his residential complex, distraught.

He dragged his leaden legs, holding onto that last bit of hope, knocking on door after door.

“Please! My grandpa in the hospital is dying! He urgently needs toilet cleaner to save his life! Please, lend me some! I’ll return it tenfold, a hundredfold!” His voice was hoarse, pleading humbly with a choked cry.

Doors opened, revealing indifferent or puzzled faces.

“Toilet cleaner? No, none.”

“What strange illness needs toilet cleaner? Are you crazy?”

“Sorry, our family uses imported ones, we don’t have the brand you’re looking for.”

“Get out! I’ll call the police if you bother me again!”

Doors closed mercilessly in front of him, shutting out his last hope.

His legs gave way, and with a “thud,” he knelt on the cold marble floor.

“Please, save my grandpa! He’s really dying!” He kept kowtowing frantically, his forehead repeatedly hitting the hard floor with dull thuds. It quickly became bruised and swollen, looking utterly pathetic.

Finally, one door opened a crack.

A young woman with a somewhat timid face peeked out, looking at Lin Huizhen, who was kowtowing like pounding garlic. A flicker of unbearable pity crossed her eyes.

She hesitated, then whispered, “You… don’t kowtow anymore. It’s not that we don’t want to help you, it’s… it’s that half an hour ago, in the owner’s group chat… Ms. Lu herself sent a message…”

Lin Huizhen suddenly looked up, staring intently at her.

The young woman was startled by the despair and madness in his eyes and quickly finished: “Ms. Lu said you were faking it, and to definitely not lend you anything, saying you just wanted to waste medical resources and gain sympathy… and… and that you’re malicious, so everyone should stay away from you…”

After speaking, she quickly closed the door, as if afraid of getting into trouble.

Boom—!

Lin Huizhen’s mind went blank. All sounds in his ears disappeared, leaving only a sharp ringing.

Lu Chengpei… Lu Chengpei! How could you be so cruel!

Even Grandpa’s last chance at life, you would personally cut it off!

He trembled, using all his strength to pull out his phone, which was half-dead from the rain.

His fingers fumbled, barely able to hold it, and it took a long time to open the community owner’s group chat, which he had almost never opened before.

Pinned at the top was a message Lu Chengpei had sent an hour ago.

【Dear neighbors: This is Lu Chengpei. Lin Huizhen, a servant in our household, dissatisfied with work arrangements, falsely claimed an urgent illness of an elderly family member, attempting to defraud medical resources and gain sympathy. His behavior is extremely egregious. Please do not believe anything he says, and do not lend him any items, so as to avoid encouraging his bad habits. If harassed, please contact property management or call the police directly. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.】

Below the message was a string of replies:

【Received, Ms. Lu, don’t worry!】
【This kind of scum should be reported to the police!】
【Support Ms. Lu! Never sympathize with a liar!】
【My heart aches for Ms. Lu, having such a servant!】
【Young Master Chi Yiye is right, poor mountains and bad waters breed unruly people!】

Every word was like a red-hot branding iron, searing Lin Huizhen’s heart.

He stared intently at the screen, his body trembling like a leaf in the autumn wind, a metallic taste rising in his throat.

The last thread of rationality completely snapped.

He furiously dialed Lu Chengpei’s number.

This time, it was no longer humble pleading, but a madness on the brink of destruction!

The phone rang for a long time. Just when Lin Huizhen thought she would hang up again, it actually connected.

“Lin Huizhen,” Lu Chengpei’s emotionless voice came through, filled with deep impatience, “Are you done making a scene? I don’t have time to play this boring melodrama with you! Whether you live or die, do whatever you want, just don’t bother me again!”

Lin Huizhen used all his strength to roar, his voice broken and hoarse, every word bleeding: “Lu Chengpei! I’m not faking it, Grandpa is really dying! He’s in the ICU at Central Hospital, if you don’t believe me, come see for yourself! I’ll start a video call, see if he’s faking it! Look!”

There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.

Perhaps the dying despair in Lin Huizhen’s voice was too real, or perhaps that minuscule thread of kinship deep within Lu Chengpei was touched.

She finally said in a condescending tone, “Fine. Start the video call. Lin Huizhen, if you dare to trick me, I’ll make your life a living h***.”

A faint glimmer of hope instantly lit up Lin Huizhen’s ashen eyes!

He clutched it like a drowning man grasping a lifeline, stumbling into the furious downpour, running with all his might towards the hospital!

Faster! Even faster! If Lu Chengpei saw it with her own eyes, Grandpa would be saved!

When he stumbled into the hallway outside the ICU, he saw doctors and nurses pushing Lu Chenshi’s bed out, preparing for an examination.

The old man was still unconscious, an oxygen mask over his face, tubes and wires connected to various instruments on his body. That suffocating stench could be smelled from several meters away, and it seemed even more potent!

Lin Huizhen rushed to the bedside, his hand trembling. He immediately started a video call, aiming the camera at Lu Chenshi’s ashen, withered, lifeless face!

“Peipei! Look! Look at Grandpa! I wasn’t lying to you! He really…” His voice choked, sobbing uncontrollably.

The video connected.

Lu Chengpei’s face appeared on the screen. The background seemed to be a luxurious hotel suite, dimly lit.

Just then, Lu Chenshi on the bed seemed disturbed. His eyelids twitched ever so slightly, and his cracked lips moved, as if trying to say something.

Lin Huizhen cried out excitedly, “Grandpa! Grandpa, wake up! Peipei’s here…”

“Ugh…” Lu Chenshi struggled to open his mouth a crack—and instantly, a visible, foul-smelling breath, tinged with heavy yellow and green, spewed forth as if it were a tangible substance!

This breath was so violent that it directly choked the old man’s own windpipe!

Lu Chenshi’s body suddenly convulsed, his eyes rolled back, and the electrocardiogram monitor, which had just shown a faint fluctuation, suddenly emitted a piercing, continuous beep: Diiiiiiiiiiiii—!

The heart rate line instantly flattened into a straight, unmoving line!

“Grandpa!” Lin Huizhen was terrified. His phone slipped from his hand and fell to the floor!

On the other end of the screen, Lu Chengpei only saw the camera shake violently, then settle on the ceiling.

Then came Lin Huizhen’s heart-wrenching cries and the frantic shouts of doctors and nurses: “Quick! The patient has suffered cardiac arrest! To the emergency room!”

Lu Chengpei’s brows furrowed tightly. There was no emotion on her face, only the anger of being fooled and deeper impatience.

She scoffed, “Lin Huizhen, your AI-generated video and sound effects are quite realistic, aren’t they? To trick me, you even came up with such special effects? You’ve really gone to great lengths!”

Her voice, played through the phone’s speaker, was clearly audible.

“Peipei! It’s real! Grandpa’s heart stopped! He’s in resuscitation! You quickly…” Lin Huizhen picked up his phone and cried out to the screen, breaking down.

“Enough!” Lu Chengpei sharply interrupted him, her eyes filled with utter disgust, “I’m warning you one last time, don’t test my patience again! If you dare to joke about my grandpa’s life and death again, I’ll make you…”

Her words were interrupted by a feigned voice: “A-Pei~ Who are you video calling? So noisy~”

Chi Yiye’s carefully made-up face squeezed into the frame.

He was wearing a silk robe, holding a highball glass. The liquid swirling inside… was a viscous, blue substance! It was “Crystal Diamond” brand toilet cleaner!

Chi Yiye smiled innocently and maliciously at the camera, intentionally tilting the highball glass, letting the expensive toilet cleaner drip onto the expensive carpet.

He feigned surprise and laughed: “Oh? Isn’t this that… um… what’s-his-name Lin? How did he end up like this? So pitiful~”

He walked to the bathtub and picked up several brand new bottles of “Crystal Diamond” toilet cleaner nearby, pouring them in like champagne!

The blue liquid quickly spread throughout the bathtub.

“Look~” Chi Yiye pointed at the swirling blue liquid in the bathtub, shook his glass at the camera, his tone full of boasting, “This is what people from high-class families should use~ I understand that a poor person like you has never seen it in your life, let alone used it, and you’re feeling envious~ But you know,” he dropped his smile, his eyes becoming sharp, “you can’t joke about A-Pei’s beloved grandpa just because you’re poor, can you? And even fabricate something like acute viral halitosis? It’s really laughable!”

He leaned closer to the camera, lowering his voice, with a triumphant air of knowing secrets: “Let me tell you, I have a great sister who’s a chief physician at Central Hospital! I just asked her, and your hospital’s ICU hasn’t admitted any critically ill elderly person named Lu today! And there’s no patient with acute viral halitosis either! Lin Huizhen, before you lie, can you at least think it through?”

“Chi Yiye! You’re talking nonsense! Grandpa clearly…” Lin Huizhen’s eyes were bloodshot, wishing he could tear through the screen and rip him apart!

“Enough, what’s there to say to such a despicable person.” Lu Chengpei’s cold voice came through, filled with deep disdain. “Lin Huizhen, is your act over? For your few years of serving Grandpa, I won’t hold it against you this time. If there’s a next time, you’ll bear the consequences.”

With that, the video call was mercilessly cut off.

Just then, the emergency room door was violently pushed open.

A nurse rushed out, her face ashen, and called out to Lin Huizhen: “Family! Lu Chenshi’s family! The patient… resuscitation was unsuccessful… pronounced dead… please accept our condolences…”

The words were like a heavy hammer, mercilessly striking Lin Huizhen’s already shattered heart. His hand could no longer hold his phone, letting it slide to the floor.

He stared blankly at the nurse, then at the phone on the floor with its cracked, black screen…

His entire world completely collapsed and shattered before his eyes.

He could no longer support himself. His body swayed, then he fell straight onto the cold floor.

There were no more tears.

His heart was dead, his tear ducts dry. Only endless, icy darkness completely swallowed him.

Lu Chenshi’s funeral was handled solely by Lin Huizhen.

No Lu family relatives were notified, nor were any of the so-called business partners.

The mourning hall was set up in the main hall of the Lu family’s old residence, arranged with exceptional simplicity and solemnity. There was only a large black and white portrait, in which Lu Chenshi’s gaze was stern, as if still observing this absurd world.

The urn sat quietly in the center of the altar.

Lin Huizhen wore black mourning clothes, his face ashen, his eyes deeply sunken, filled with a dead emptiness.

He quietly knelt by the side of the mourning hall, like a soulless statue.

In just a few days, he seemed to have aged ten years.

Lu Chengpei had not appeared at all.

Calls went unanswered, messages sank like stones in the ocean.

Lin Huizhen sent her a photo of the hospital’s death certificate; the black and white text declared the end of an old man’s life.

Lu Chengpei replied with a hostile voice message: “Lin Huizhen, are you addicted to acting? Your Photoshop skills are good! I want to see how long you plan to keep this charade going!”

Lin Huizhen looked at the message with no expression on his face.

Heart dead, ashes to ashes, that’s probably what it felt like.

He slowly typed a reply: “3 PM, old residence mourning hall. Grandpa is waiting for you to see him off one last time.”

Three PM.

Sunlight slanted through the tall windows, casting patches of light on the mourning hall floor.

Outside the door, unrestrained laughter could be heard.

The heavy wooden doors of the mourning hall were pushed open.

Lu Chengpei, dressed in fiery red, entered with a radiant expression, as if she were attending a grand feast, not a funeral.

On her arm, she held Chi Yiye, who was also dressed in flashy attire and wore an expression of someone ready to enjoy a show.

As the two entered, the glaring red contrasted absurdly and blindingly with the solemn black and white of the mourning hall.

Lu Chengpei surveyed the room, her gaze falling on the small urn on the altar. A sneering, utterly mocking cold smile played on her lips.

She walked to the altar, lightly tapped the smooth lid of the urn, her voice filled with deep ridicule: “Grandpa~ Are you old enough? Stop acting!”

She raised her voice, speaking to the urn, yet her eyes provocatively looked at Lin Huizhen, who knelt beside it, like a withered tree.

“I know you want to help Huizhen trick me into coming back! But is it really necessary, old man? Using fake death to curse yourself? Don’t you think it’s bad luck?”

Chi Yiye, as if by magic, pulled out two small, exquisitely packaged travel-sized bottles of toilet cleaner from his limited-edition handbag.

A mischievous yet malicious smile was on his face: “Exactly~ Grandpa Lu, please don’t be angry~ Look, is this what you wanted? The treasure Brother Huizhen cried and screamed for on the phone~ Here, I’ve brought it for you! Although it’s not worth much, it’s a token of my and A-Pei’s sincerity~”

With that, he twisted open a cap, and under Lu Chengpei’s indulgent gaze, he flicked his wrist—

Splash!

Blue liquid, emitting a strong artificial fragrance, was deliberately splashed onto the floor beneath the altar by Chi Yiye, with a contemptuous smile!

The blue liquid quickly spread across the floor, giving off a pungent odor, desecrating this space that should have been solemn.

“Don’t you want it? Here you go~” Chi Yiye giggled, his voice piercingly loud in the silent mourning hall.

Lin Huizhen, who had been kneeling like a withered tree, began to tremble violently.

He slowly raised his head.

In his bloodshot, deeply sunken eyes, there was no longer dead silence, but two flames burning as if from h***.

He pushed himself up from the floor, staggering to his feet. Step by step, he walked towards Chi Yiye.

Under the slightly astonished gaze of Chi Yiye and Lu Chengpei, Lin Huizhen suddenly raised his hand—

“Slap—!!!”

A slap, delivered with all his strength and boundless hatred, landed viciously on Chi Yiye’s smug face!

A sharp crack echoed in the mourning hall.

Chi Yiye was sent flying two backflips on the spot. Half of his face instantly swelled red, and his meticulously styled hair was disheveled.

He clutched his face, looking at Lin Huizhen in disbelief, and shrieked, “You… you dare hit me?!”

Lin Huizhen didn’t look at him.

His eyes blazing red, he stared intently at Lu Chengpei, his voice hoarse and low, enunciating each word clearly, as they struck Lu Chengpei’s eardrums:

“Lu Chengpei! Whether you believe it or not! Grandpa… he’s really gone!”

His finger trembled as he pointed to the small urn on the altar, his voice filled with heartbroken grief:

“His ashes are right here! Right in front of you! I beg you… for the sake of him raising you… for the sake of him still uttering your name before his death… for the sake of him dying without even seeing you, his own granddaughter, one last time…”

Lin Huizhen’s voice choked.

The immense grief made him almost unable to stand, but he held on desperately: “Don’t do this anymore… Grandpa… he’ll be heartbroken!”

“Heartbroken?” Lu Chengpei looked as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world. She watched Lin Huizhen’s pain, saw him hit Chi Yiye, saw him point at the urn…

The last shred of wavering in her heart, caused by his excessively real pain, was completely drowned by fury!

“Lin Huizhen! You’re still acting!” Lu Chengpei suddenly burst out a scream, rushing to the altar in one stride. In everyone’s terrified eyes, she grabbed the heavy urn!

“You said he’s dead? The ashes are here?” A nearly insane, sinister smile was on her face. “Fine! I’ll show you! I’ll see if my grandpa is really in there! I’ll see what kind of b****y trick you’re playing!”

“No—!” Lin Huizhen let out a desperate shriek, rushing forward to stop her!

But it was too late!

Lu Chengpei, holding the urn, forcefully opened the lid over the toilet!

“Grandpa! Old man, watch closely! I’m about to expose this b****y person’s lie!” she shrieked hysterically, tilting her wrist—

Splash…

Grayish-white ashes, mixed with some unburnt small bone fragments, poured out like fine sand, falling into the murky water of the toilet!

Lin Huizhen watched the scene, feeling dizzy, his vision blurring.

Under the surge of anger, he could no longer hold back a mouthful of fresh blood, and it erupted with a “whoosh”!

Grandpa… Grandpa’s ashes…

“Oh, no!”

Lu Chengpei, holding the urn, suddenly let out a short shriek.

A gray, extremely old-fashioned steel underwear was mixed in, not completely incinerated!

Now, it fell with the ashes, and by sheer coincidence, it got stuck in the bend of the toilet drain!

Chi Yiye, clutching his swollen face, came closer. He saw the stuck, gray underwear, first froze, then, as if he had caught hold of some grand leverage, he burst into laughter, pointing at the toilet:

“Pfft ha ha ha! I’m dying of laughter! Lin Huizhen! Is this what you call Grandpa Lu’s ashes? You’re fooling ghosts! How could someone as noble and meticulous as Grandpa Lu wear such boring, trashy underwear, like something from a street stall? I think you just picked up some garbage from somewhere and put it in the box to fake it, didn’t you? Do you take us for idiots?”

His shrill laughter was filled with malicious glee.

However, his laughter had not yet faded—

“Bang!!!”

A dull, heavy thud!

Lu Chengpei suddenly spun around and, with all her might, delivered a vicious kick to Chi Yiye’s stomach!

The force of this kick, combined with Lu Chengpei’s suppressed aggression and the rage of a forbidden boundary being crossed, was immense!

Chi Yiye was caught off guard. Like a broken kite, he flew backward with a scream, a full eight meters away!

His body slammed heavily against the altar, the pain making his face turn pale. He couldn’t even groan!

Lu Chengpei stood rooted to the spot, her chest heaving violently, her eyes fixed on the grayish-white underwear stuck in the toilet drain.

She suddenly turned her head, her voice hoarse, with a kind of maddened fury and… a tremor she herself hadn’t noticed.

“Lin! Hui! Zhen!”

She took a step closer.

“To trick me! To make me believe your nonsense!” She pointed at the toilet, her fingertip trembling violently, “You actually… actually dared to steal my grandpa’s… his…”

The words “chastity underwear” seemed to be stuck in Lu Chengpei’s throat.

“Do you know what this underwear meant to him?! It was something he guarded his entire life, more important than his own life! It was his promise to my deceased grandmother! It was the symbol of Lu Chenshi’s lifelong unwavering loyalty! How dare you steal it and put it in this disgusting trick! You’re simply not human!”

Her words struck Lin Huizhen’s shattered heart.

He looked up, at Lu Chengpei’s face distorted by rage, at the gray underwear in the toilet that carried an old man’s lifelong belief, at the ashes scattered on the floor…

He suddenly didn’t want to explain anymore.

All his strength had been drained.

Just then, the male secretary, who had been following Lu Chengpei, came forward with a grave expression.

He held a tablet computer, its screen displaying complex diagrams and a newly generated report.

He ignored the eerie atmosphere in the mourning hall and Chi Yiye groaning in pain on the floor, walking straight to Lu Chengpei’s side, his voice steady: “Ms. Lu.”

Lu Chengpei sharply turned her head: “What is it?!”

The secretary handed her the tablet, pointing to the report results on it, and said clearly: “I extracted biological information from the ashes and conducted a rapid DNA comparison with your own DNA.”

He paused, then announced each word distinctly:

“…All tested gene loci in both samples conform to Mendelian inheritance laws… The probability of paternity is greater than 99.9999%… Confirmed without a doubt—”

The secretary’s voice was decisive, like a thunderclap in the dead silence of the mourning hall:

“The ashes in the toilet indeed belong to Mr. Lu Chenshi, your biological grandfather, your direct paternal grandfather!”

Boom—!

Lu Chengpei felt as if something had exploded in her head.

The secretary’s voice, the cold data from the report, were like countless red-hot needles, fiercely piercing her nerves.

She suddenly took a step back, her face instantly turning ashen, her body shaking uncontrollably!

The gray underwear in the toilet… the scattered ashes… the secretary’s decisive words…

No! Impossible! Lin Huizhen must have bribed the secretary! It must be a trick!

To believe it would mean… it would mean she personally put her grandpa’s ashes…

She violently pushed the secretary away, rushed to the toilet in a few steps, looking at the ashes floating inside, and that glaring, stuck underwear…

That ancient and secretive ancestral teaching, once considered baseless, thundered through her confused mind like a curse—【Direct bloodline, bone and blood merge!】

Yes! Bone and blood merge!

As long as her blood didn’t merge, it was fake!

She seemed to grasp the last twisted straw of hope. In everyone’s horrified gaze, she suddenly lowered her head and fiercely bit her fingertip!

Blood instantly welled up, dripping down.

She ignored everything, trembling, extending her bleeding finger into the murky water of the toilet, where the ashes floated!

Crimson drops of blood fell from her fingertip, carrying the warmth of life, lightly dripping onto a small clump of grayish-white ashes floating on the murky water.

Time seemed to freeze at that moment.

The next second.

A miracle, or rather, a nightmare, occurred.

That drop of crimson blood, like water falling into scorching sand, did not float or spread out. Instead, it was rapidly absorbed by the grayish-white ashes, at a visible speed!

It wasn’t merging, it was absorbing!

As if the ashes possessed some eerie suction, instantly devouring that drop of fresh blood completely.

Bone and blood merge!

The ancestral teaching… was real!

“Ugh…” A broken whimper escaped Lu Chengpei’s throat. She stared intently at the disappearing blood drop, her body shaking violently, as if struck by an invisible, massive hammer in her heart!

All doubts, all hopes against hope, all self-deception… at this moment, were completely shattered by that disappearing drop of blood!

Grandpa… Grandpa’s ashes… it was real…

She just… personally… poured Grandpa’s ashes… into the… toilet…

“Pfft—!” Blood suddenly spewed from Lu Chengpei’s mouth!

Her vision darkened, the world spun, and an overwhelming grief, like a tsunami, instantly swallowed her whole!

“Ms. Lu!” The secretary quickly caught her.

“Toilet… toilet cleaner…” She spoke a few broken words, as if grasping at a last straw. She violently pushed the secretary away, frantically grabbing the toilet cleaner Chi Yiye had brought, stumbling back to the toilet!

“Grandpa… Grandpa, I’m sorry… I was wrong… I was wrong!!” She cried out, her voice a terrifying wail, “Use this… use this toilet cleaner… it’ll be clean after washing… it’ll be fine after washing… you can come back… Grandpa! Grandpa, come back!”

Her trembling hand was about to pour the entire bottle of toilet cleaner into the toilet with the ashes!

“Stop!!!” A heart-wrenching scream rang out!

Lin Huizhen, who had been sprawled on the floor, suddenly found a burst of strength from somewhere. He lunged forward, using all his might to desperately hug the small, cold urn, though only half the ashes remained inside.

He used his body to block between Lu Chengpei and the toilet!

“Lu Chengpei!” Lin Huizhen looked up, his eyes, once filled with gentle love, now held only despair.

“Enough! Don’t… don’t defile Grandpa anymore!”

He tightly held the urn in his arms, as if holding the old man’s last shred of dignity: “Let him… let him leave cleanly…!”

Lu Chengpei’s hand, raised with the toilet cleaner bottle, froze in mid-air.

“Clang!” The toilet cleaner bottle slipped from her hand, hitting the floor. Blue liquid gushed out, spreading into a glaring blue puddle.

Her legs gave way, and she completely collapsed to the floor, letting out a terrifying, inhuman, utterly desperate wail. Then, her vision completely darkened, and she fainted.

A month later, International Airport.

Lin Huizhen wore a simple black trench coat. His frame was noticeably thinner, his face still pale, but his eyes were as calm as a deep autumn lake, no longer troubled.

He pushed a small suitcase. Inside, besides a few clothes, the most important item was the carefully repacked, cloth-wrapped box containing the other half of Lu Chenshi’s ashes.

He was taking Grandpa away from this painful land.

He had just reached the security checkpoint.

“Huizhen! Lin Huizhen! Wait!” A desperate, hoarse female voice called out.

Lin Huizhen’s steps didn’t falter in the slightest, but Lu Chengpei stumbled forward.

She was completely changed.

Her once flamboyant and vibrant face was thin and haggard, her lips cracked and peeling. Her expensive clothes hung loosely on her frame.

In just one month, she seemed to have been drained of all her spirit, leaving only a shell gnawed by endless regret.

She rushed to Lin Huizhen, opening her arms to block him, her voice choked with tears: “Huizhen, don’t go! Look what I brought!”

She suddenly pointed to the airport entrance, where a large van was parked, its back doors open, filled to the brim with boxes of toilet cleaner!

“I bought all the highest-grade toilet cleaner available on the market! All the best ones! Grandpa… Grandpa surely needs them… he…”

Lu Chengpei was incoherent.

Lin Huizhen looked at her calmly, his eyes devoid of hate, or resentment, only a desolate indifference.

That look, sharper than the keenest blade, shattered Lu Chengpei’s heart even more.

“Lu Chengpei,” he spoke, his voice calm and unruffled, “The one you hurt was your grandpa. The one you should atone to is him. Not me.”

“I know!” Lu Chengpei nodded frantically, as if afraid he wouldn’t believe her. She fumbled with her phone, opened a video, and tremblingly held it out to Lin Huizhen: “Look, I’ve already punished him! I punished him for you, for Grandpa!”

The video footage was shaky. The background seemed to be a bathtub filled with blue toilet cleaner! Chi Yiye was being held down by two burly men, struggling, screaming, and repeatedly forced into the blue liquid!

Gagging, crying, and begging for mercy mixed together, the scene was extremely brutal.

“Is this enough, Huizhen?” Lu Chengpei looked at Lin Huizhen eagerly, her eyes filled with a pathological desire for praise: “Chi Yiye got his comeuppance, and Grandpa’s soul in heaven can rest in peace! Will you forgive me? Huizhen… if you leave me, Grandpa will be heartbroken…”

Lin Huizhen looked at Chi Yiye’s painful struggles in the video, and at Lu Chengpei’s distorted expression, trying to use someone else’s suffering to gain forgiveness. He felt a surge of nausea.

As Lu Chengpei froze, he walked to the back of the van, suddenly grabbed one of the boxes of toilet cleaner, and forcefully dragged it out!

The box hit the ground with a dull thud.

Lin Huizhen’s eyes were cold, devoid of any warmth. He fiercely kicked the box, and bottles of exquisitely packaged toilet cleaner rolled out.

Without even looking, he raised his foot and, aiming at those bottles—

“Bang!” “Splash!”

He stomped down hard!

As if crushing all the humiliation of the past three years.

Blue liquid flowed under his feet, until the ground was a mess. Lin Huizhen finally stopped.

He looked up at the completely dazed Lu Chengpei.

His voice was still calm: “A-Pei. When you repeatedly ignored me, when you repeatedly abandoned Grandpa for Chi Yiye…”

He paused, his gaze passing over Lu Chengpei, as if piercing through time, seeing that stern yet lonely old man.

“Grandpa… he was already heartbroken.”

“Doing all this now,” he pointed to the video on the phone of Chi Yiye being held in the toilet cleaner, a faint curve on his lips, “is too late.”

With that, he no longer looked at Lu Chengpei. He resolutely turned, dragging the suitcase containing half of the ashes, his slender yet incredibly resilient back held straight. Step by step, he walked firmly into the security check.

He never looked back.

Lu Chengpei stood rooted to the spot, her phone slipping from her powerless hand, falling to the floor. Chi Yiye’s screams in the video abruptly ceased.

She watched Lin Huizhen disappear, her legs gave way, and she collapsed heavily, letting out a stifled, utterly desperate sob.

Extra Chapter

Five years later, late autumn.

Lin Huizhen sat quietly by the window of an elegantly decorated coffee shop.

A homeless man, dressed in rags and emitting a strong, pungent odor, hesitantly shuffled towards his table.

“Sir… please… some money…” The homeless man’s voice was hoarse and unpleasant, accompanied by an unsettling stench.

Lin Huizhen raised his eyes, his gaze calmly sweeping over the face, which was so ravaged by illness it was almost unrecognizable.

In his eyebrows, a faint trace of a once delicate and sharp outline remained.

Chi Yiye.

Lin Huizhen’s eyes showed no ripples, neither hatred nor pity, as if he were looking at a complete stranger.

He averted his gaze, picked up his coffee cup, and elegantly took a sip, as if the person in front of him simply didn’t exist.

“Sir… please… I… I’m dying…” Chi Yiye, seeing that he was ignored, took another step closer. The strong, putrid odor, like a rotting swamp, wafted towards Lin Huizhen.

Lin Huizhen slightly furrowed his brow, put down his coffee cup, picked up his briefcase, and calmly stood up.

He never gave Chi Yiye another glance.

He walked to the counter, paid, and left directly.

The cool autumn breeze lifted the hem of his trench coat, his silhouette tall and distant.

Chi Yiye’s withered hand froze in mid-air, his cloudy eyes fixed intently on the direction where Lin Huizhen had disappeared, filled with resentment.

He coughed violently, a heart-wrenching cough, almost coughing up his internal organs. The foul odor intensified, spreading outwards, and passersby retreated, clutching their noses.

He had contracted acute viral halitosis, just like Lu Chenshi back then, and personally experienced the old man’s suffering.

That night.

In a dilapidated abandoned building on the outskirts, a cold wind howled.

Chi Yiye huddled on the concrete floor, covered by a few pieces of cardboard.

He was burning hot, his consciousness blurry, incessantly muttering: “Give me toilet cleaner… please… sell it to me… I’m Chi Yiye… I’m not Lin…”

The urgent sound of a car engine grew closer from a distance. Blinding headlights pierced the darkness and stopped outside the abandoned building.

The car door opened, and Lu Chengpei stepped out.

Five years had passed. The once flamboyant spirit in her had long been worn away, her features now marked by an indelible gloom.

Behind her, two bodyguards carried a large plastic桶.

The bodyguards heavily placed the barrel in front of Chi Yiye.

Chi Yiye was startled awake. He weakly opened his eyes, saw Lu Chengpei, then looked at the barrel. His cloudy eyes instantly erupted with an astonishing light!

He struggled to crawl up as if experiencing a final burst of energy, lunging towards the barrel, his emaciated fingers frantically prying at the lid: “It’s toilet cleaner, isn’t it?! A-Pei, you finally gave it to me! Quick! Give it to me, I’m dying!”

Lu Chengpei looked down at him, her eyes as cold as if she were looking at a pile of garbage.

She waved her hand.

The bodyguards stepped forward and violently ripped off the lid!

Instantly, a familiar, pungent scent of toilet cleaner diffused into the air!

Chi Yiye let out a cry of ecstasy, throwing himself forward, his dirty face almost burying itself in the blue liquid!

However, just as his lips were about to touch the liquid—

Lu Chengpei suddenly raised her foot and delivered a powerful kick to the side of the barrel!

“Splash—!”

The large plastic barrel was overturned! The viscous blue liquid, like a breaking dam, instantly poured out, splashing onto the dirty concrete floor!

“No!!!” Chi Yiye let out a desperate, inhuman shriek, disregarding everything as he fell to the floor, frantically licking the liquid mixed with mud on the ground.

Lu Chengpei looked at his humble, crazed state, her eyes showing no emotion, only disgust.

“I told you,” her voice was like something from h***, clearly reaching Chi Yiye’s ears in the howling cold wind, “Don’t bother Huizhen.”

Chi Yiye paused.

The next second, Lu Chengpei fiercely pressed the flush button, sending all the toilet cleaner on the ground away.

The hope in Chi Yiye’s eyes completely shattered as the toilet cleaner disappeared, replaced by deep despair!

“What you did to Huizhen and Grandpa,” Lu Chengpei’s voice was like a final judgment, “I will never forgive.”

She withdrew her foot, looking at Chi Yiye, who was completely limp like mud on the floor, and said word by word:

“Aton for it slowly, with every foul breath you take for the rest of your life.”

With that, she turned away without a trace of lingering attachment and walked towards the car.

The car’s headlights cut through the darkness, quickly receding.

In the abandoned building, only the howling cold wind remained, and the shriveled figure curled up on the ground.

A few days later, in a corner of the morning social news, a brief, inconspicuous message scrolled by: 【An unidentified male corpse was discovered in a dilapidated building in the western suburbs of the city. Preliminary assessment indicates death due to illness, cold, and starvation. The deceased was suspected to have suffered from severe halitosis during his lifetime…】
