- Chapter 26 - Under the Green Water Pool
Misty water vapor permeated above the Green Water Pool. Moonlight filtered through sparse branches and leaves, coating the water’s surface with a flowing silver sheen.
Yu Wanwan soaked in the cool pool water, washing away the fatigue of a day’s cultivation, feeling utterly relaxed. The Flame-Winged Tiger lay on the bank’s rock, feigning sleep, its small tail idly thumping the ground.
“This pool truly is a good place with abundant spiritual energy.” Yu Wanwan scooped up some water, and crystal-clear droplets slid down her smooth skin.
A small golden light from her neck poked out its head. It was Little Gold.
It flicked its tongue, lazily saying, “It’s just so-so, far worse than the Star Spiritual Spring this Grandpa bathed in back then.”
Little Gold suddenly raised its head, a sharp glint flashing in its dark golden vertical pupils: “Three zhang to the west of the pool bottom, there’s an abnormal spiritual energy fluctuation, very faint, but very pure, like a water-attribute spiritual item.”
Yu Wanwan’s spirits lifted.
She had long since placed absolute trust in Little Gold’s sensory abilities. “Really?”
She took a deep breath and plunged down with a powerful dive.
The pool water was clear but deep. Moonlight could only penetrate a shallow layer.
She dove down like a swimming fish, her spiritual energy circulating to protect her body.
Indeed, in an inconspicuous rock crevice at the bottom of the pool, a dark hole, just wide enough for one person to pass through, appeared. Wisps of cool spiritual energy overflowed from within.
“There’s something here.” Yu Wanwan’s heart rejoiced. She immediately surfaced to take a breath.
“There’s a cave down there, and spiritual energy is coming out of it.” She waved to the Flame-Winged Tiger on the bank and then said to Little Gold: “Little Gold, let’s go down and explore.”
Little Gold scoffed: “First, let’s agree: if there’s anything good, you have to give me a share.”
Yu Wanwan smiled: “You won’t be left out.”
She dived in again. The Flame-Winged Tiger let out a low growl, transformed into a streak of fire, and leaped into the water, closely following her.
One person, one tiger, one snake, silently slipped into the mysterious cave.
The passage was narrow and winding, with strong currents.
After about half a stick of incense’s time, the area ahead suddenly opened up.
A massive underwater grotto appeared before them.
The cave walls were embedded with strange moss that emitted a faint blue light, illuminating the rugged stalactites within the cave. The air was filled with dense water-attribute spiritual energy, several times purer than above the pool.
“Truly a hidden gem,” Yu Wanwan’s eyes sparkled.
Just as she was marveling, danger followed.
“Gurgle, gurgle!” A dense sound of water bubbles rose.
Over a dozen demonic beasts, the size of millstones and shaped like giant beetles, crawled out of the shadows.
They were entirely covered in dark blue hard shells, their carapaces sharp as knives at the edges, and their six thick, segmented limbs were covered in barbs. Their heads were very small, a pair of compound eyes glimmered with ferocity, and their mouthparts were like two sharp scissors, opening and closing with crisp “clacking” sounds.
Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles!
“They’re Tier 1 demonic beasts, Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles. Be careful of their pincers and carapaces. Their defense is very strong, and they’re fast in the water,” Little Gold Snake immediately warned.
No sooner had it spoken than several Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles, like arrows from a bow, brandished their huge pincers and charged forward, tearing through the water.
Those pincers carried a sharp screech that tore through the air, their might not to be underestimated.
“Roar!”
The Flame-Winged Tiger roared and charged forward without fear.
Crimson flames surged around its body, burning fiercely even underwater, evaporating large patches of the surrounding water into bubbles.
Its tiger claws, wreathed in flames, fiercely struck the Water-Splitting Pincer Beetle charging at the front.
“Bang!” Flames collided with carapace, creating a muffled thud. The Water-Splitting Pincer Beetle was sent tumbling backward, a charred mark left on its carapace, but it did not shatter, showing its strong defense. The other Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles took the opportunity to pounce on Yu Wanwan from the sides.
Yu Wanwan’s eyes turned cold. In her hand, she held a Yellow-grade Autumn Water Sword obtained from Sun Da’s storage pouch.
She did not use Phoenix True Fire. The sword light, like a ribbon, swept horizontally, carrying a scorching aura.
The water seemed to be cleaved into a vacuum.
Several Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles’ pincers snapped in response, and green bodily fluid instantly dyed the surrounding waters green.
The injured demonic beasts let out painful hisses.
The Flame-Winged Tiger was even more ferocious. Relying on its fiery protection, it endured the pincer attacks. Its tiger claws, bites, and flame breaths made the Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles retreat repeatedly. Their hard carapaces began to crack under the continuous scorching of the flames.
“Good teamwork!”
Little Gold, coiled on Yu Wanwan’s shoulder, commented sagely, “That one in the front left, its carapace joint is a weakness. To the side, stab its eye!”
With Little Gold, the “battle master’s” precise guidance, Yu Wanwan and the Flame-Winged Tiger were like tigers with wings.
Sword light and flames intertwined, precisely striking the Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles’ weak points.
Soon, over a dozen Tier 1 Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles were cleaned up. Limbs, severed and green blood floated in the grotto.
“Phew…” Yu Wanwan breathed lightly, putting away her long sword.
The Flame-Winged Tiger shook off the water droplets on its body, its flames gradually receding. It affectionately rubbed its large head against her.
“Don’t relax!” Little Gold suddenly warned sharply, its snake eyes fixed on a huge shadow deep within the grotto. “The boss is here!”
Splish!
Water surged, and a gigantic creature slowly revealed itself.
This was a water snake, over thirty feet long.
Its entire body was covered in fine, verdant scales, shimmering with a metallic luster in the dim light. On its triangular snake head, a pair of cold vertical pupils were like two ghostly green flames.
Most uniquely, two small bumps protruded slightly from its head, as if something was about to break through. A fierce aura, far surpassing that of the Water-Splitting Pincer Beetles, permeated the air, making it hard to breathe.
Tier 2 Demonic Beast: Green Water Python.
“Hiss—”
The Green Water Python let out a piercing hiss, opening its monstrous mouth. A solid, verdant water arrow tore through the current, shooting directly towards Yu Wanwan’s face with a bone-chilling coldness!
“Dodge!” Little Gold shouted urgently.
Yu Wanwan narrowly avoided it.
The water arrow grazed past her, struck a stalactite behind, instantly freezing it into ice before it shattered with a roar.
“Such powerful cold poison!”
Yu Wanwan’s heart tightened. The Flame-Winged Tiger roared and pounced, attempting to suppress it with flames.
But the Green Water Python was extremely cunning. Its massive body was incredibly agile in the water. Its snake tail swept horizontally like a steel whip, forcing the Flame-Winged Tiger to retreat repeatedly.
It continuously spat out verdant water arrows, filling the entire grotto with danger and pervasive cold air.
“This guy has thick skin and flesh. Ordinary attacks won’t hurt it,” Little Gold quickly analyzed. “The bump on its head is its weakness, and also where its essence lies. Use your Phoenix True Fire. Induce a wisp of its aura to attach to your sword. That’s enough to break its defense. Let that stupid tiger distract it!”
Yu Wanwan understood and immediately transmitted a message to the Flame-Winged Tiger.
The Flame-Winged Tiger roared, its body flames surging to the extreme. It even endured a lash from the snake’s tail, firmly entangling the Green Water Python’s head and neck. Flames scorched its scales, making sizzling sounds.
“Now!” Little Gold shouted.
Yu Wanwan’s eyes narrowed. A trace of the dormant Phoenix True Fire in her Dantian was activated.
An indescribable ancient and noble aura instantly permeated, though it flashed and disappeared, it made the Green Water Python’s massive body suddenly stiffen. Its vertical pupils revealed an instinctive fear!
“Slash!”
On the Autumn Water Sword, a barely perceptible crimson-gold thread of fire coiled. Yu Wanwan moved like a ghost, seizing this fleeting opportunity. She channeled all her spiritual energy into the sword, transforming it into a dazzling sword light, and with extreme precision, stabbed towards the two bulging bumps on the Green Water Python’s head.
“Pfft!”
Like a hot knife through butter.
The sword’s edge, infused with the Phoenix True Fire’s aura, pierced through the Green Water Python’s hardest skull without hindrance, plunging deep into the fleshy bumps.
“Hiss!!!”
The Green Water Python let out an earth-shattering, mournful shriek. Its massive body twisted and rolled madly, turning the grotto upside down.
Green blood mixed with shattered brain matter gushed out.
After struggling for a full dozen breaths, the Tier 2 demonic beast finally crashed to the ground, completely lifeless.
The grotto was a mess. Yu Wanwan leaned on her sword, panting. That last strike had almost drained most of her spiritual energy.
The Flame-Winged Tiger also had several wounds corroded by cold poison, which it was licking with its tongue.
“Well done.” Little Gold then slithered over, circled the Green Water Python’s corpse once, and finally stopped at its pierced head.
It opened its small mouth and actually sucked out a fist-sized, continuously wiggling, pure blue gelatinous substance, radiating dense, pure water spiritual energy, from the shattered bumps.
The essence of a Tier 2 water-element demonic beast, it was an excellent treasure for water-attribute cultivation.
“Good stuff!” Little Gold’s eyes shone. “Although it’s a drop in the bucket for this Grandpa to recover his dragon body, even a mosquito’s leg is still meat. Little girl, this is mine!” It swallowed it without ceremony. The blue light flowed through its small body.
Yu Wanwan smiled, not minding.
She quickly cleaned up the battlefield, putting the valuable snake gall of the Green Water Python into her storage pouch.
She also found a few Tier 2 water-attribute spiritual herbs growing alongside it in the depths of the grotto.
“This place is not suitable to linger,” Little Gold reminded with a satisfied burp.
Yu Wanwan nodded. With her gains, she and the Flame-Winged Tiger swiftly left the grotto, silently returning to the bank of the Green Water Pool.
The sky was already faintly bright. Yu Wanwan changed her clothes and, with the Flame-Winged Tiger and Little Gold Snake, set off on the way back to the sect in high spirits.
Just as she reached a small path near the outer sect disciples’ living quarters, she ran directly into someone.
Zhao Tieshan!
He was walking with a few of his followers, talking about something, his face bearing his usual arrogance.
But when his gaze swept over Yu Wanwan, the expression on his rugged face instantly became incredibly vivid:
First, a ghostly astonishment, followed by an unbelievable fluster, and finally, he forced out a stiff smile, his eyes flickering uncertainly, not daring to meet Yu Wanwan’s gaze at all.
Yu Wanwan’s steps halted.
Her previously relaxed mood instantly vanished, and a chilling killing intent churned in her chest.
No more evidence was needed.
It was this gaze, this extremely guilty reaction…
She stopped, standing there quietly, her gaze like a cold blade, piercing directly into Zhao Tieshan.
Zhao Tieshan felt uncomfortable all over. Fine beads of sweat even seeped from his forehead.
He forced himself to calm down, coughed dryly, and spoke with a hint of bravado masking inner weakness: “Yu… Junior Sister Yu, morning, just came back from outside? Didn’t run into any trouble?”
The followers behind him also sensed the wrong atmosphere. They all fell silent, looking at their boss’s abnormal behavior in confusion.
Yu Wanwan’s lips curved into a cold arc. There was no warmth in that smile, only deep coldness.
“Trouble?” she slowly spoke, her voice not loud, but clearly reaching everyone’s ears, carrying a knowing mockery. “Thanks to Senior Brother Zhao, I did encounter a bit of trouble, but it’s all been resolved.”
“Res… resolved?” Zhao Tieshan’s pupils sharply constricted. His face instantly paled even more. He unconsciously took half a step back, his voice even trembling slightly. “Res… resolved is good, resolved is good.”
His almost self-incriminatingly guilty demeanor further confirmed Yu Wanwan’s suspicions.
“Yes, it’s all resolved.” Yu Wanwan advanced a step, her gaze like a torch, firmly locking onto Zhao Tieshan’s flickering eyes. She said word by word, “It’s just that I didn’t expect the source of the trouble to be so close to me. Senior Brother Zhao, wouldn’t you agree?”
Her words were pointed, like a heavy hammer striking Zhao Tieshan’s heart.
Zhao Tieshan’s face was ashen. His lips trembled. He wanted to refute but couldn’t utter a single word. Cold sweat streamed down his forehead.
His followers looked at each other, completely unaware of what had happened.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Zhao Tieshan suddenly flicked his sleeve, trying to hide his fear with anger, but his voice clearly trembled. “Yu Wanwan, what do you mean?”
“Nothing much, Senior Brother Zhao. Don’t overthink it,” Yu Wanwan chuckled. The disdain and coldness in that laugh made Zhao Tieshan’s subsequent threats get stuck in his throat.
She no longer bothered with this clown. She walked past him directly, not even sparing him an extra glance.
The Flame-Winged Tiger let out a low growl, giving Zhao Tieshan a warning glare, and followed its master.
Only Zhao Tieshan remained frozen in place, his face alternating between green and white, a mixture of shame, indignation, and fear, feeling utterly cold.
Little Gold poked its head out from her sleeve, looking at Yu Wanwan’s cold profile. It flicked its tongue: “Tsk tsk, so much killing intent? Looks like that fool really ticked you off. Do you want this Grandpa to take a stroll in his room tonight and leave him a souvenir?”
Yu Wanwan’s steps didn’t falter. She looked straight ahead, her voice chillingly cold: “No need. I will settle this score with him personally. Slowly.”
