The morning mist was like gauze, shrouding the Spirit Beast Garden. The air was filled with the unique fresh scent of spiritual herbs.

Because other outer sect disciples had already contracted spirit beasts in their families, Yu Wanwan walked into the garden with six outer sect disciples. The bluestone slabs beneath their feet still carried the dampness of the night dew, each step leaving a faint water mark.

“Sister Wanwan, what kind of spirit beast do you think you’ll pick?” Meng Ke’er tugged her sleeve, her round face full of anticipation.

Yu Wanwan’s lips curved slightly: “It depends on luck.”

Her gaze swept over the dozen or so beast eggs placed on the stone platform in front. Each one emitted a faint glow, as if silently calling out to its future owner.

These beast eggs were all bought by the sect from hunters. There was a high probability that there wouldn’t be any high-grade spirit beasts inside. At most, they would be Tier 1 demonic beast eggs.

Of course, it wasn’t absolute.

Why beast eggs? Because this was the novel’s setting.

Letting cultivators choose demonic beasts was like picking blind boxes in a previous life, filled with the excitement of the unknown.

And beast eggs could not be probed with divine sense. Even a Soul Transformation almighty had to rely on luck.

In her Sea of Consciousness, the little golden snake lay coiled lazily: “Hmph, are these low-grade beast eggs worth getting excited over? Back then, a casual sneeze from this Grandpa could scare a group of Tier 3 demonic beasts to death!”

Yu Wanwan responded inwardly: “You can’t even sneeze now, so stop bragging.”

The little snake’s scales immediately bristled: “You! This Grandpa is a dragon in shallow waters.”

“Silence!”

A sudden roar rang out, like muffled thunder, making the faces of several weaker disciples turn pale.

Everyone looked up to see a towering, muscular man striding towards them. He was nine feet tall, his muscles bulging. The “Beast Taming” jade token at his waist swayed with his steps, and the pressure of a Foundation Establishment peak cultivator made the air feel sticky.

“It’s Senior Brother Zhao Tieshan!” Someone whispered. “I heard he once single-handedly subdued a rampaging Tier 3 Iron-backed Azure Bear!”

Zhao Tieshan’s eyes, like copper bells, swept over everyone. His gaze lingered on Yu Wanwan for a moment, then he said coldly: “Today, each of you may choose one beast egg to sign a contract with.”

He pointed to the stone platform, his voice like a grand bell: “Remember three points.”

“First, once a spirit beast is chosen, it cannot be changed!”

“Second, during the contract, you must drip blood to acknowledge it as master. If the spirit beast resists, stop immediately! Otherwise, if it backfires, you will suffer minor soul damage at best, or become a cripple at worst!”

“Third…” He paused meaningfully, his gaze sweeping over everyone. “If you hatch a high-grade spirit beast, you must report it to the sect! No private hoarding!”

The little snake scoffed in her divine sense: “This third rule is clearly for those with connections, afraid that good things will fall into the hands of ordinary disciples.”

Yu Wanwan nodded inwardly.

Indeed, any world cannot lack such filth.

“Now, begin choosing!”

With Zhao Tieshan’s command, the six disciples rushed towards the stone platform, eager to be first.

Yu Wanwan, however, stood still, her gaze sweeping back and forth among the beast eggs.

“Sister Wanwan?” Meng Ke’er looked back in confusion.

“You go first,” Yu Wanwan said softly, while inwardly asking the little snake, “Which one has the most potential?”

The little snake raised its head, a sharp glint flashing in its golden vertical pupils: “The third one from the left, fire attribute. Although its bloodline is as diluted as watered-down wine, it’s still better than those pieces of trash.”

“I’ll go first!” A burly male disciple impatiently rushed forward, his palm pressing heavily on a yellowish-brown beast egg.

The eggshell cracked with a “crunch,” and a palm-sized Stone Armored Turtle slowly crawled out, its shell covered in mysterious patterns.

“Not bad!” Zhao Tieshan nodded. “A Stone Armored Turtle’s defense is comparable to a mid-grade Yellow-tier magical artifact. When it matures, it can reach Tier 2.”

The male disciple was overjoyed: “Thank you, Senior Brother!”

Next, a tall, thin individual chose a green beast egg. With a crisp cracking sound, a Wind Spirit Sparrow broke out of its shell, its wings creating small whirlwinds as it flapped, causing gasps of surprise from the surrounding disciples.

“Wind Spirit Sparrow, a speed-type spirit beast,” Zhao Tieshan evaluated. “Suitable for scouting.”

When it was another female disciple’s turn, her fingers trembled nervously. She closed her eyes and randomly picked a sky-blue beast egg.

“Crack!”

The moment the eggshell shattered, a blue light shot into the sky! A crystal-clear Water Spirit Fox shook its fur and intimately rubbed against the girl’s palm, letting out a “whine” sound.

“Water Spirit Fox?!” Zhao Tieshan’s pupils constricted. “A Tier 1 rare spirit beast. When it matures, it has a chance to break through to Tier 3!”

The entire place was in an uproar!

“Her luck is too good!” “I heard Water Spirit Foxes have extremely strong illusionist talents!” “If only I had that luck…”

The girl joyfully picked up the little fox: “You’re truly a good baby. I’ll take you back to sign the contract now.”

Yu Wanwan took a deep breath and walked towards the crimson beast egg.

The moment her fingertips touched it, she secretly transferred a wisp of Phoenix True Fire’s aura into it.

“Boom.”

The beast egg suddenly trembled violently, and a crimson light shot into the sky like a volcanic eruption! The mist in the entire Spirit Beast Garden instantly evaporated. The nearby disciples were forced to retreat repeatedly by the heatwave.

“What’s going on?!” “Is it going to explode?!” “Get back quickly!”

Zhao Tieshan’s face changed dramatically: “Stop! Let go quickly!” He was about to step forward to stop her, but then the eggshell “bang” shattered.

“Roar.”

A tender yet majestic tiger’s roar suddenly exploded, shaking the entire Spirit Beast Garden!

Everyone sharply turned their heads, only to see a crimson figure break out of the spirit beast egg. Its flame-like wings “swished” open, and a scorching wave of heat swept around, forcing the onlookers to retreat!

“Flame… Flame-Winged Tiger?!” Zhao Tieshan’s voice trembled, his eyes almost bulging out. “Tier 2 spirit beast?!”

The entire place was dead silent!

The next second, a chaotic clamor erupted like a boiling pot.

“Tier 2?! Isn’t that comparable to a late Qi Condensation existence?!”

“How can an outer sect disciple successfully contract it?!”

“Is this Yu Wanwan’s luck defying the heavens?!”

“No! She’s only in Qi Condensation. How could she possibly suppress a Tier 2 spirit beast?!”

Yu Wanwan was also stunned.

She looked at the majestic little beast before her, entirely crimson, its fur shimmering like burning flames, with two wings on its back and a tail as sharp as a sword. Its golden-red eyes were bright and spirited. At this moment, it tilted its head, curiously observing her, and even let out an affectionate “woof.”

“This… this is a Flame-Winged Tiger?!” Meng Ke’er’s small face turned red with excitement. “Sister Wanwan! You’re rich! A mature Flame-Winged Tiger can grow to Tier 4! Comparable to a Golden Core cultivator!”

Yu Wanwan hadn’t even reacted when Zhao Tieshan already took a swift stride forward, staring intently at the Flame-Winged Tiger, a greedy light flashing in his eyes.

“Junior Sister Yu!” He lowered his voice, his tone tinged with urgency. “You can’t control this spirit beast! A Tier 2 spirit beast consumes a huge amount of resources. You, an outer sect disciple, can’t possibly afford to raise it! How about this, I’ll offer five hundred spirit stones to buy it from you, and you can choose another one, how about that?”

Yu Wanwan’s eyes turned cold.

Five hundred spirit stones?

Heh, this Flame-Winged Tiger would be worth at least three thousand spirit stones on the black market! Not to mention the king-grade bloodline it might contain!

Zhao Tieshan saw her silence and thought she was wavering. He immediately intensified his tone: “Junior Sister, you must think carefully! Contracting a Tier 2 spirit beast at the Qi Condensation stage, a slight carelessness can lead to a backlash! Minor soul damage at best, or instant death at worst!”

The surrounding disciples heard this and all agreed.

“That’s right, last time an inner sect senior brother forcibly contracted a Tier 2 spirit beast, and as a result, he suffered a backlash. He’s still lying in bed now!”

“Junior Sister Yu, don’t be impulsive!”

“Senior Brother Zhao is doing this for your own good. A Tier 2 spirit beast is not something you can control!”

Yu Wanwan’s lips curved slightly, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes.

“Thank you for your concern, Senior Brother.” Her tone was calm, yet carried an undeniable firmness. “But I have a connection with it, and I don’t want to change.”

Zhao Tieshan’s face instantly darkened.

If it were anyone else, he would definitely use his authority to forcibly seize this Flame-Winged Tiger.

But he saw Meng Ke’er’s inner sect disciple jade token, and fearing the power behind her, he abandoned that idea.
