Qingyang City, Yu Family Mansion.

The setting sun descended, its afterglow like blood, painting the entire mansion with a golden-red halo. In the courtyard, several century-old spiritual pines swayed in the wind, their needles rustling, as if whispering something softly.

Yu Chengguang stood outside the main hall, his hands clasped behind his back, but his gaze occasionally darted towards the main gate, his knuckles slightly white.

“Patriarch, the Plum-Winged Sect’s envoy is here!” A Yu family disciple ran over hastily, his voice filled with ill-concealed excitement.

A sharp glint flashed in Yu Chengguang’s eyes. He quickly straightened his robes and hurried out to greet them.

“Usually, it’s just a Foundation Establishment disciple sent as an escort. This time, they actually sent a Golden Core Elder…” He rejoiced inwardly. “It seems that Young Lady Wange’s talent has even made the Plum-Winged Sect unable to sit still!”

However, when he clearly saw the approaching person, his breath hitched slightly.

Outside the mansion gate, a graceful figure stood quietly.

The woman wore a simple white long dress, with a pale green silk sash tied around her waist. Her robes swayed without wind, like an immortal descending to the mortal world. Her face was serene and cold, her skin like snow, her features picturesque, yet she exuded an aloof chill that repelled others. Most strikingly, a vermilion mark adorned her glabella, as vibrant and dazzling as blood jade.

“True Monarch Yumeng…” Yu Chengguang’s heart trembled.

This was none other than Senior Sister Yumeng, the Junior Sister of Dan Chenzi, the Head of the Pill Peak of the Plum-Winged Sect, and a third-grade alchemist! Her status within the sect was extremely high!

He quickly stepped forward and respectfully bowed: “Junior Yu Chengguang, greets True Monarch Yumeng!”

True Monarch Yumeng merely glanced at him, her gaze frosty, her voice clear and cold: “No need for formalities.”

Sweat beaded on Yu Chengguang’s forehead. He quickly turned sideways to lead the way: “True Monarch has come a long way. Please rest inside. This junior has already ordered spiritual tea to be prepared…”

“No need.” True Monarch Yumeng directly interrupted. “I am only here to pick someone up. Where is Yu Wange?”

Her tone held no fluctuation, as if she were merely stating the most ordinary matter.

Yu Chengguang’s smile stiffened. He was secretly annoyed but dared not show it in the slightest: “I’ve already sent someone to summon her. Please wait a moment, True Monarch…”

True Monarch Yumeng frowned slightly, seemingly impatient: “My Senior Brother Dan Chenzi said her talent is good, which is why I made this detour. Don’t waste my time.”

Her words were blunt, and Yu Chengguang’s face instantly turned somewhat unpleasant.

Just then, light footsteps approached.

“Father, I’m here.”

A clear voice, like that of a golden oriole, rang out. Everyone turned to look, only to see a young girl gracefully approaching.

She was about thirteen or fourteen years old, dressed in a pale pink silk dress. Her skin was like jade, her features picturesque, and especially her eyes, clear and bright, as if they could reflect the human heart.

It was Yu Wange!

True Monarch Yumeng’s gaze shifted slightly, showing a hint of emotion for the first time: “You are Yu Wange?”

True Monarch Yumeng’s eyes, as clear and cold as a deep pool, subtly moved, appraising the young girl standing in the hall from head to toe.

“Excellent root bones, clear Spirit Platform. She is indeed a good seedling.” True Monarch Yumeng’s red lips parted slightly, her voice as pleasant as a mountain spring, yet carrying an undeniable authority. “Go tidy up quickly. We will depart for the sect immediately.”

Upon hearing this, Yu Wange’s fingers, hidden in her sleeves, trembled slightly. She suppressed the wild joy in her heart and respectfully bowed: “Yes, True Monarch.”

“True Monarch.” Yu Chengguang rubbed his hands, his face plastered with a fawning smile. “This time, another clan member, named Yu Wanwan, will also be accompanying Wange to the Plum-Winged Sect.”

True Monarch Yumeng’s delicate brows furrowed almost imperceptibly. Her slender, pale fingers gently tapped the table, making a rhythmic “thud-thud” sound.

“This True Monarch is only here to escort Yu Wange alone.” Her voice remained clear and cold, but with a hint of impatience. “The Plum-Winged Sect accepts disciples; it’s not a place just any stray cat or dog can enter.”

The air in the study instantly solidified. Sweat seeped from Yu Chengguang’s forehead. He secretly wiped it away and said with a conciliatory smile: “True Monarch, please understand. Although Yu Wanwan’s aptitude is ordinary, she is diligent. Moreover… she and Wange have deep sisterly affection. It would be good to have someone to look after her on the journey.”

“Deep sisterly affection?” True Monarch Yumeng glanced at the direction Yu Wange had left with a faint smile, and calmly said, “This True Monarch sees it differently.”

Yu Chengguang’s back was already soaked with sweat. He gritted his teeth and took out a brocade box from his sleeve, carefully pushing it over: “This is a three-hundred-year-old Snow Spirit Ganoderma that my father accidentally obtained during his travels. Please accept it, True Monarch.”

True Monarch Yumeng’s fingertip lightly lifted, and the brocade box opened with a click. A refreshing medicinal fragrance immediately filled the entire study. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes; she hadn’t expected a small family to be so generous, then she quickly returned to her composed demeanor.

“Fine.” She closed the brocade box and said faintly, “Tell her to prepare quickly. This True Monarch still needs to return to the sect to report back.”

Yu Chengguang felt as if he had been granted a great pardon. He quickly instructed the steward: “Quick, go summon Yu Wanwan!”

At this moment, Yu Wanwan was playing with the small snake in her dilapidated little courtyard.

“Young Lady Wanwan!” The old steward Yu Fu ran over, panting. “The Patriarch wants you to come immediately!”

A sharp glint flashed in Yu Wanwan’s eyes, quickly replaced by a timid expression: “Uncle Fu, I’m coming now.”

She deliberately dragged her feet for a while, just to make Yu Chengguang and Yu Wange wait for her.

“Yu Wanwan, what are you still dilly-dallying for?” Yu Fu stamped his feet in exasperation. “The True Monarch is waiting!”

“Coming, coming.” Yu Wanwan lowered her head and quickly followed. A cold smile played on her lips: “What’s the rush? The good show has just begun.”

Inside the study, True Monarch Yumeng was meditating with her eyes closed. Hearing footsteps, she slowly opened her eyes, her gaze as sharp as a hawk’s.

“Wanwan, what took you so long? Why aren’t you greeting True Monarch Yumeng?” Yu Chengguang sternly reprimanded.

Yu Wanwan timidly bowed: “Wanwan greets True Monarch Yumeng.”

True Monarch Yumeng merely gave a faint “hmph,” not even raising an eyelid. In her eyes, this girl of mediocre aptitude was merely an added bonus.

“Wanwan,” Yu Chengguang suddenly changed to a gentle tone, which sent shivers down Yu Wanwan’s spine. “This time, it’s thanks to Wange’s strong recommendation that you have the opportunity to go to the Plum-Winged Sect. You must be grateful and take good care of Wange, do you hear?”

Yu Wanwan lowered her head, her fingernails digging deep into her palm. She cursed inwardly: “Old fool! Don’t you know why your daughter recommended me? Isn’t it because you want me to be her punching bag and maid? Once I reach the Plum-Winged Sect, I’ll be like a dragon returning to the sea!”

“Patriarch.” She looked up, revealing an obedient smile. “I will definitely take good care of Sister Wange.”

Yu Chengguang nodded in satisfaction, but he didn’t notice the fleeting cold glint in Yu Wanwan’s eyes.

“True Monarch, you see…” Yu Chengguang turned to True Monarch Yumeng, hesitating to speak.

True Monarch Yumeng stood up, her sleeves moving without wind: “Since everyone is here, let’s depart.”

Just then, Yu Wange gracefully arrived. She had changed into a brand new pink silk dress, with pearl hairpins swaying in her hair, looking like a fairy stepped out of a painting.

Yu Wanwan watched with cold eyes, sneering inwardly: “She’s putting on quite a show. But how could a person of True Monarch Yumeng’s caliber not see through your hypocritical facade?”

Indeed, True Monarch Yumeng subtly frowned imperceptibly, and gently withdrew her arm: “Cultivators should have a clear mind and few desires. These mundane items must be changed once we reach the sect.”

Yu Wange’s smile stiffened on her face, and she awkwardly replied, “Yes.”

“Let’s go.” True Monarch Yumeng waved her sleeve, and a stream of light flew out from her waist, transforming into an exquisite flying boat in the air.

Yu Wange impatiently boarded the flying boat, not forgetting to glare back at Yu Wanwan, mouthing, “You’d better be careful.”

Yu Wanwan lowered her head, pretending not to see. She slowly walked onto the flying boat, deliberately tripping a little near Yu Wange.

“Ah!” Yu Wange shrieked, almost falling.

“Sorry, sorry!” Yu Wanwan profusely apologized, frantically trying to help, but “accidentally” stepped on Yu Wange’s foot.

True Monarch Yumeng looked back, a hint of amusement flashing in her eyes. With her cultivation, how could she not see these small actions? But she didn’t expose them, only calmly said, “Stand firm.”

The flying boat slowly ascended into the sky. The Yu family mansion grew smaller and smaller beneath them. Yu Wanwan looked at the gradually receding Yu family, a myriad of emotions swirling within her.

The flying boat pierced through clouds and fog, quickly disappearing into the horizon.
