“Do you believe me? I could just grab anyone off the street and marry them, and they’d be better than you!” Catching a whiff of gossip, my best friend Zhao Zekai and I looked up almost simultaneously. We exchanged a quick smile, then, with a silent understanding, we both grabbed our bowls and ran out the door. I have to say, gossip truly is the best accompaniment to a meal. We squatted on the curb, slurping our noodles while watching a man and a woman arguing.
I swallowed the noodles in my mouth and pointed with my chopsticks at the heated argument. “Look, look! That woman is so agitated she’s almost slapping that man’s face!” My best friend mumbled, “That guy is such a wuss. Even like this, he doesn’t dare to touch her. Hey, don’t tell me, that woman…”
